October Is LUTHERAN MONTH at Trinity!!!

October has traditionally been THE month for Lutherans to celebrate our faith identity - it was on October 31st, 1517, that Martin Luther nailed his document, The 95 Theses, to the door at the castle church in Wittenberg, Germany. In this document he questioned and challenged the religious abuses of the day - and caused a HUGE RUCKUS!!!! It literally changed the world.

This year, you have two chances to be there - no, I haven't invented a time machine (well, not again , anyway- it didn't work out well last time - sorry, big mess! Just kidding!!!! Or am I?), but we have TWO ways that you can experience that event.  Neither, surprisingly enough, has anything to do with beer (you'd have to know something about Luther for that to make sense... loved his beer).

The first event is our second Luther Movie Night - On Wednesday, October 27th, at 6 pm, we'll be looking at the new(ish) Luther movie - on the big screen in the AMC. We'll have refreshments (again, sorry, no beer), sing songs, and watch the Luther movie - with commentary by Pastor Becker. We'll stop the movie at various times to talk about what's going on and how it affects us today.

The second opportunity to experience the Reformation is at worship on Sunday, October 31st for our Reformation Sunday services. Both services will be traditional worship format, and at the 2nd service we will celebrate the confirmation/Affirmation of Baptism of three of our young people. We'll sing some hymns that Luther wrote, remember the struggles that the church and Christians were experiencing , and see how we still today struggle with similar issues of faith and life. (No beer, but we Will celebrate communion that day!)

And, if you're in 6th-9th grade, you have even a THIRD opportunity to celebrate being a Lutheran! We have confirmation class in Pastor Becker's office, 7-8:15 pm. We're using a new Confirmation Curriculum - Here We Stand, from Augsburg-Fortress. Parents - I NEED YOU TO BRING YOUR KIDS!!!!!! They need to know everything possible about being a Christian, and this is a wonderful place for it to happen!

Other October Events You Don't Want to Miss!

On Sunday, October 3rd, 2 pm, we have a Rooted in Faith celebration!  Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate what we have already accomplished in the Rooted in Faith initiative to help Trinity Grow. Apple pie and ice cream will be served, child care is available, and we want EVERYONE to come. Please send in your reservation (if you got one) or fill out one in the bulletin - it will be GREAT FUN!!!!

On Sunday, October 10th, 2 pm, we have our New Member Class. If you have been thinking about joining Trinity, or are just interested in finding out what we're all about, this is a time to learn. The class is 2-5, refreshments served, child care provided, and we'll have dinner with the Alpha meeting after the class. Please fill out the welcome slip and/or contact one of the pastors if you're able to come.

On Sunday, October 17th, we celebrate our Comforters' Quilting ministry. At both services we'll  lift up their ministry, and participate in praying for the recipients of the quilts. There is also an opportunity to purchase a quilt - the proceeds go to help fund their ministry for the coming year.

ALSO on Sunday, October 17th, at 8:30 am service, we have Back to School Sunday, at which our teachers are installed and we invite school families to participate in worship with us. AND, as if that wasn't enough, African Team ministries will be here to offer items for sale to further their work in Tanzania.

Sunday, October 24th is the Sunday we celebrate our Preschool Ministry. Kids sing at the 10:45 am service, and teachers will be installed. These two Back-to-School Sundays are wonderful opportunities to meet and greet our school families!

Finally, on Saturday, October 30th, we are again offering our Harvest Festival! Here we have rides, games, face painting, and so on, as a way to reach out to our community. More details to follow

What a great time to be a part of Trinity Lutheran!!!!!

In Christ's Service, with all joy,

Pastor Larry Becker
