A Message From Pastor Becker...

I'm a Leavin' on a Jet Plane...
Going on vacation is hard work! Prepping people to do the things that I would normally take care of while I'm gone, taking care of all the things that have piled up on me that NEED TO BE DONE before I go, packing,  hiring the Sherpa to carry my camera gear in Japan (wishful thinking!) - just so much to do! I'm on vacation from 11/4 through 11/18. Pastor Tom Cooper is preaching again for us. And, if you have any pastoral needs, please contact the church office. Arrangements have been made... and I will be reachable in Japan (but 15 hours ahead of this time zone!)

Fall is a really busy time at Trinity, too, and having to take a vacation this time of year compresses the scheduling of some of our normal November activities a little more tightly than we would want, and even moves some into December.  Sorry for the changes, but I think we can make it all work.

Community Thanksgiving Luncheon for Seniors and those in need
On Wednesday, November 18th, the Hawthorne/Lawndale Ministerial Association and the City of Hawthorne are hosting the annual Thanksgiving luncheon from 11:30-1:30. I'm told that we already have enough turkeys donated, but are coming up short on volunteers. I promise you it's lots of fun!  I always like to go, and will this year if I've sufficiently recovered from jet lag.

Thanksgiving Eve Service
As has been our custom, we will have our Thanksgiving Eve service on Wednesday, November 25th, at 7 pm. You perhaps remember that our speaker last year for this service was Pastor Tatano, General Secretary of the Japanese Lutheran Church and pastor of a Lutheran Church in Hiroshima. Part of the reason I'm going to Japan is to return the favor. I'm preaching at his church in Hiroshima on November 15th. I promise not to damage Japanese/American relations too much... (Do you think they've heard of Monty Python?)

Fall Stewardship Event
Saturday, December 5th at 5 pm we will have our annual Stewardship event.  Starting off the evening with a potluck supper, we will spend some time talking about what will be coming in 2010, sharing vision, hopes, dreams and fears, and inviting members to pledge their support to the ministries we share here.

New Member Class
On Sunday, December 6th, from 2 pm to 6 pm or so, I will lead a new member class for those wishing to become members of Trinity or renew their membership here. The class is tailored specifically to the needs of those who attend and is designed to help you integrate into the life of the parish and understand more deeply what Trinity is all about as a congregation and part of the Kingdom of God.

Family Advent Arts and Craft Night
Our school is hosting our annual Advent Arts and Craft night on Wednesday, December 9th. More details to come soon, but all are invited. If you have kids or grandkids, this is the place to be!

I'll be praying for you all on my travels... and looking forward to ministering among you again soon.

Blessings and peace,
Pastor Larry Becker
